Every Interface Teaches Behavior

Every interface teaches behavior. Even when you don’t intend it.
Users don’t read instructions. They look for patterns. They repeat what works and avoid what feels uncertain. If your system is inconsistent, users don’t adapt to it — they build workarounds.
Good interfaces reduce thinking time. They create predictable outcomes. A button should behave the same across screens. Navigation should not surprise.
This is measurable.
Time to first action
Error rate
Repeat usage patterns
If users hesitate, something is being taught incorrectly.
Good design doesn’t explain. It guides.
